Salt production is set to resume at Ukraine’s Dolynske deposit in Ivano-Frankivsk, one of the country’s oldest sites with mining dating back to the 10th century. The revival project includes a new salt-distillation facility and a full environmental impact assessment.
Following the 2022 loss of Artemsil, Ukraine’s largest producer, imports rose significantly to 142,810 tonnes at a much higher cost. This initiative is framed as both an economic and symbolic move to reduce dependence on costlier foreign salt.
