Salrom, Romania’s state-owned salt company, has secured a license extension for a EUR 198.3 million graphite exploitation project in the Ungurelașu–Polovragi region. Backed by the European Commission, the project aims to produce battery-grade graphite for electric vehicles.
While Salrom is best known for salt, this move marks a strategic diversification into critical raw materials essential for Europe’s energy transition, positioning the company at the forefront of Romania’s industrial transformation.
