Tanzania to Introduce Dedicated Salt Production Licenses

The Tanzanian government has announced plans to introduce new salt production licenses to promote growth in the salt industry. This move aims to differentiate salt from other minerals and reduce production costs. The announcement came during a meeting between the Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, and officials from the Tanzania Salt Producers Association (TASPA).

Mavunde confirmed that the legal procedures to create the special salt production license would begin immediately, with the licensing fee set at $7,5 per hectare. This initiative is expected to boost local investment in salt processing and refining plants, improving the quality and competitiveness of Tanzanian salt. The government also expressed continued support for ongoing projects, including a salt processing plant in Lindi Region.
