Guérande Salt Harvest Begins with Hope After Disastrous 2024 Season

Salt producers in France’s Guérande marshes have begun harvesting under near-perfect weather conditions, raising hopes for a strong season after 2024’s disastrous rains slashed yields.

With sun, heat, and wind accelerating evaporation, early signs suggest a significant rebound from last year’s average of just 25 kg per basin. The region’s prized fleur de sel is already forming with excellent texture and color, offering much-needed relief to the 300 paludiers whose livelihoods depend on these protected Atlantic saltworks.
