Spain: Winter De-icing Shifts One-Fifth of Sea-Salt Output

Recent cold spells in Spain have redirected approximately 20% of the country’s sea-salt production toward de-icing and road use. This significant diversion is tightening allocation between food-grade and industrial channels, making stock decisions highly weather-dependent.

The surge in road-salt demand is straining warehousing and trucking capacity across the region. For industrial and food-grade buyers, this shift represents a risk of narrower delivery windows and increased price sensitivity during peak transport periods.
