Punta Arenas has received its final salt shipment for the 2025 winter season, bringing its total stock to 1,300 tons—a record volume aimed at ensuring frost and snow control across 190 km of urban roads. The latest delivery completes a phased procurement plan initiated in February.
Municipal crews begin salt spreading at 3:30 a.m. daily, prioritizing high-traffic and sloped routes. The city has doubled its salt handling volume compared to previous years, supported by a $184 million CLP investment to manage extreme conditions and ensure public safety.
