Salt shipments from the Port-island of Areia Branca in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Norte reached 376,000 tons in April 2025, marking a 56.9% increase over the same month last year. The terminal also led Northeast Brazil in overall cargo growth, handling 436,000 tons—up 82.3% year-on-year.
The boost follows efficiency gains after the 2022 leasing of the port to the Intersal Consortium. Industry leaders say the performance underscores salt’s economic weight in the region, contributing to over 7,000 jobs and a R$1.1 billion industrial GDP impact in 2023.
