Following last week’s approval of legislation to revive Salinas de Manaure (SAMA Ltda), new details confirm a COP 61 billion (approx. USD 15 million) investment aimed at modernizing operations, settling debts, and increasing production.
The capital structure secures 49.9% ownership for local partners, including Wayuu associations and the municipality of Manaure. Officials warn that past issues—corruption, illegal mining, and social tensions—must be addressed to ensure the saltworks becomes a driver of sustainable development for La Guajira.
