Montenegro has signed a contract to restart traditional salt production at the Ulcinjska Solana nature park, where salt-making ended in 2013. The restart plan is built on a “production-with-conservation” logic, as the site is a critical migratory bird route and ecological sanctuary.
Since 2015, the site has been managed by the state’s National Parks company. The new project aims to use controlled salt production to support the site’s ecological stability and biodiversity, turning a bankrupt industrial site into a sustainable ecological model.
