Montenegro to Revive Salt Production at Ulcinjska Solana

Montenegro has signed a contract to restart traditional salt production at the Ulcinjska Solana nature park, where salt-making ended in 2013. The restart plan is built on a “production-with-conservation” logic, as the site is a critical migratory bird route and ecological sanctuary.

Since 2015, the site has been managed by the stateโ€™s National Parks company. The new project aims to use controlled salt production to support the site’s ecological stability and biodiversity, turning a bankrupt industrial site into a sustainable ecological model.
