Bangladesh: Salt Output Hits Only 9% of Seasonal Target

Bangladesh’s salt season (Nov–May) has passed the halfway mark, but only 9.22% of the production target has been achieved. A late start and unfavorable weather conditions have severely slowed harvesting, creating a massive gap between planned and realized volumes.

Despite the low output, farmgate prices have fallen sharply due to import pressure and a market crowded with cheaper foreign products. This paradox of low production and low prices raises concerns about late-season supply volatility and the long-term sustainability of local farmers.
