Indonesia: KPI and PT Garam Plan 1 Mt/y Processing Plant

Pertamina’s refinery arm KPI has partnered with state salt producer PT Garam to develop a large-scale salt processing facility in Balikpapan. The project targets an annual output of 1 million tonnes and is designed to cut Indonesia’s reliance on imported industrial salt.

Strengthening domestic supply for manufacturing and energy-linked value chains, the facility is expected to improve feedstock security. It may also lead to local logistics upgrades in storage and handling, helping Indonesia compete more effectively in regional industrial salt trade.
