Tata Chemicals Approves New $56M Salt Facility in Tamil Nadu

Tata Chemicals has approved a $56.8M greenfield project in Valinokkam, Tamil Nadu, to produce Iodised Vacuum Salt Dried (IVSD). The plant is planned for a capacity of 210,000 tonnes per annum, establishing a second manufacturing base closer to South Indian demand.

The investment aims to reduce logistics costs and improve service levels for packaged table salt. This added capacity will shorten lead times for retailers and institutional buyers, intensifying competition in the branded salt segment as producers upgrade their distribution networks.
