28,000 Tons of Imported Salt Stuck at Colombo Port

Sri Lanka’s Salt Producers Association reported that 400 containers of Indian salt have been stranded at Colombo Port for over 45 days due to Bill of Lading disputes. The imports were intended to ease a domestic shortage caused by weather-hit local production.

The association has urged government intervention to clear the delays. If released, the 28,000 tons of salt are expected to be sold at reasonable prices to stabilize the local market and support food processing industries.
