VL Mineração has agreed to acquire Mosaic’s Taquari-Vassouras potash mine in Sergipe for $27 million. The mine is Brazil’s only active source of potassium chloride, a vital fertilizer mineral of which the country imports 90% of its needs.
The new owners have committed $25 million in capital investments to extend operations and assume $22 million in decommissioning obligations. The sale comes as Mosaic redeploys capital to higher-return opportunities amid shifting global fertilizer demand.
