The Bangladeshi government announced plans to purchase salt directly from local farmers in Cox’s Bazar at fair prices, aiming to protect growers and reduce reliance on intermediaries. Industry Secretary Md Obaudur Rahman emphasized that salt imports are currently restricted to safeguard domestic production. A national database of verified salt farmers will be created to streamline access to training, financial incentives, and health services. A new salt policy is also underway, targeting long-term industry development and stability.
