The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Northern Mindanao is spearheading efforts to modernize the salt industry in Misamis Oriental, particularly in Alubijid town. By introducing advanced cooking and evaporation technologies, local producers can now ensure year-round salt production, overcoming the limitations of traditional sun-drying methods.
This initiative is part of a broader economic program, with DOST-10 investing PHP19.2 million in community projects and PHP39.8 million in enterprise development, leading to 500 new jobs. The modernization efforts are expected to significantly increase output while maintaining quality. Training sessions on the new evaporation systems are set for next month.
