Trump Tariffs Halt Namibia’s U.S. Salt Exports

Walvis Bay Salt Holdings has stopped exports to the U.S. after new tariffs closed off the market, forcing the company to pivot toward the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Currently, 85% of its one-million-ton annual output is directed to African buyers, led by Nigeria.

Managing director Andre Snyman warned that inconsistent tariffs across Africa remain a challenge. Despite this, the firm plans to boost capacity by 40% and leverage a new portside warehouse to speed up deliveries and protect product quality.
